Modern Serverless Launches Office Migration Service to Retire On-Premise Servers and Move Workloads to Cloud Software

A fixed-fee engagement that audits, migrates, and decommissions aging Windows Server deployments, replacing the workloads they host with modern cloud SaaS chosen to fit each office's budget and staff.

May 5, 2026. Modern Serverless today announced the public launch of its office migration service at modernserverless.com. The service is built for offices still running on-premise servers — typically Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, or 2019 — that handle file sharing, email, identity, scheduled tasks, and one or more line-of-business applications, and whose internal capacity to maintain that infrastructure has not kept up.

The Modern Serverless engagement covers the full migration arc. The first phase is a written audit of every workload running on the office server, with an owner, a frequency, a downstream consumer, and a candidate replacement. The second phase is the selection of modern cloud software to replace each workload — Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for mail and identity, SharePoint or Dropbox for file shares, vetted SaaS for the line-of-business applications, and a cloud scheduler for the recurring tasks that the server was running overnight. The third phase is the migration itself, including data transfer, parallel-run validation, staff training, and a published cutover date after which the server is decommissioned and removed.

"Most offices have a server in a closet that nobody wants to touch," a Modern Serverless representative said. "It is running because it has been running. The renewal cycle keeps coming around and the office keeps signing because nobody has looked at the line items in years. We do the work to make the decision legible and, when the decision is to retire the server, we run the migration end to end with a written plan and a published date."

The service is structured as a fixed-scope engagement with explicit deliverables for each phase. A typical office migration runs eight to sixteen weeks from kickoff to decommission, depending on the number of line-of-business applications and the complexity of the existing identity setup. Engagements include staff training on the new tools and a thirty-day post-cutover support window for issues that surface after the parallel run has ended.

Modern Serverless is accepting new engagements effective immediately and is prioritizing offices whose server hardware is more than five years old, whose Windows Server licensing is approaching the next renewal cycle, or whose existing operating system is approaching its Microsoft end-of-life date.

About Modern Serverless

Modern Serverless is a migration service for offices retiring on-premise servers and moving the workloads to modern cloud software. The firm specializes in the audit, planning, migration, and decommission work that determines whether an office migration produces a sustainable cloud-first posture or a half-finished mess that lingers for years. The service is intentionally narrow in scope, covers each engagement end to end, and produces written deliverables at every phase.
